About

His notion of Japan’s beauty is rooted in the sense of modernity that is to be found in Japanese architecture, gardens, and tea ceremony. He incorporates into his work the geometric beauty to be found in the straight clean lines of sliding doors and tatami mats, the sensitivity towards change and imperfection, the aspiration towards harmony with nature. The new works alludes to the concept of borrowed scenery in traditional Japanese gardens. By incorporating the outside world into your own world without altering the natural beauty of the original scenery, there is a fusion of the two worlds, creating a unique yet harmonized ambience. All of these elements find affinity in his work.

Art critique

The quiet energy of Dominique Lutringer’s recent artworks, composed of lines and geometrical shapes, are characterized by the “restrained use of colors” and simple aesthetics. For years, he has developed numerous painting styles, which has now resulted in simple and meditative images in monochrome and delicate roughness. While the elements of the paintings are freely composed, the white surfaces and the multiple layers of pencil strokes create rhythm, articulating the tension between these compositional elements. The artist seeks to perfect the idea of simplicity and to eliminate the unnecessary, to return to the essence of things.
